Introducing “TribeNet”

Hello Kingdom people,

For years I’ve heard on a regular basis from individuals and small groups/house churches who wanted to know if there are others in their area that share their vision of a Jesus-looking God raising up a Jesus-looking people to transform the world in a Jesus kind of way. Along the same lines, if you’ve followed me on Twitter for any length of time, you’ve seen me regularly re-tweet requests by people looking for a kingdom-focused church in their region or a region they were moving to.

In response to these requests, the ReKnew team, headed up by the lovely and brilliant Barbara Schendel-Kent, has been working for the past year on an interactive map on which kingdom people can find small groups/house churches and traditionally-modeled churches near them and, if they so choose, connect with other individuals. And it gives me great pleasure to announce that this project is (finally!) complete and is now available online!

Our hope is that this site, which we are calling TribeNet, will not only help kingdom people and communities begin to network together, but also that it would give all who share our kingdom vision a sense of belonging to a common kingdom tribe. We also hope in the future to include a discussion board on which people can discuss kingdom matters as well as a section in which we can pass along video testimonies of what God is doing in the lives of kingdom people.

So, I’d like to strongly encourage all individuals, small groups, house churches, and more traditionally-modeled churches who share our kingdom theology to register themselves on TribeNet.org. (TribeNet contains our statement of faith if you’re wondering what our theology consists of.) It’s self-explanatory and very quick!

Even if you are not looking to connect with others, your registration is important in conveying to others the overall sense of belonging to a bigger movement. And please spread the word about TribeNet.org to others who embrace the kingdom vision. Also, since the site will be a bit sparse for a while until folks have had a chance to register, don’t be discouraged if you don’t see many people or churches in your area. More people will join as word spreads, and you can also create a “Search Alert” to be automatically notified when new small groups/house churches and traditional churches are added near you.

Finally, we also have a Resources page on which organizations are listed that have services to offer kingdom individuals and/or churches. If you are a leader in such an organization (such as a seminary, a church planting training organization, etc.), I encourage you to go to the Resources page and submit a request to be registered on the site as well. Think of it as free advertising!

We here at ReKnew feel blessed to be a part of the “new wine” that God is pouring out in the world right now, and we pray God uses this map to help network this movement that God is birthing into an identifiable kingdom tribe.

Why Racial Reconciliation Matters

In Psalm 72, the author prays for a day when “all kings” would “bow down” to God’s anointed and when “all nations” would “serve him” (vs. 11). At this time, the Psalmist continues, God’s king will deliver “the needy who cry out” and save “the afflicted who have no one to help.” He will “take…

The Radically Distinct Kingdom of God

Yesterday, we posted a video where Greg mentioned the radical distinction between the kingdom of God and the governments of the world. The following explains this distinction further. Nothing is more important to the cause of the kingdom of God than actually living out a Christlike vision of the kingdom. Or to put it in…

Kingdom Reconciliation is Not About Politics (But it is Political)

In the broader culture, the social and political discussions about racial reconciliation are usually focused on people’s rights and privileges as a means of making the world a fairer place. The criteria such efforts at reconciliation appeal to are common decency, fairness and reason. The enterprise is certainly necessary, and all decent, fair minded, rational…

Making America an Idol

I write as a kingdom person in the context of America, presently the dominant empire in the world. In that light, I’d like to address the fact that my calling is to resist nationalism even in the midst of appreciating my own country. America was conquered by white Europeans in the name of nationalistic religion.…

The Kingdom Stance Toward Enemies

Jesus was praying in the garden of Gethsemane, when a group of temple guards showed up to arrest him. Peter immediately drew his sword and started swinging it, cutting off a guard’s ear. From the world’s point of view, this violence was justified. Peter was simply defending himself and his master. Yet Jesus rebuked him,…
