Henry’s Mom: Did God Author This?

Many of you were touched last month when we featured some reflections on little Henry’s death. Well, Henry’s mother Jess has started a blog to process through some of her thoughts and we wanted to share this amazing piece with all of you. Jess thinks ahead to the time when her two-year-old daughter will start to ask questions about Henry and perhaps why God didn’t save him. Jess is a gifted writer and isn’t afraid to confront the hard questions. You won’t want to miss this.

From her blog:

That perfect love, I can assure her, did not author the evil that ravaged her brother. That perfect love never left our side while we walked the painful path to Henry’s death.  That perfect love never leaves us now.  It surrounds, envelops, and fills us to overflowing.  And that love wins in the end.

One day, God will wipe every tear from our eyes, and all evil will be wiped away.  We’ll be reunited with Henry!  And we’ll hold his hand while we praise for eternity the God who isgood, and whose character is not mysterious, but was perfectly portrayed on the cross of Calvary.

Sometimes evil is attributed to God withdrawing. Sometimes it is attributed to a scheme of Satan. We are called to respond to each differently. So, must we be able to discern which is the case in any given situation? http://traffic.libsyn.com/askgregboyd/Episode_0189.mp3

The following essay was written in response to Bruce Ware’s article, “Defining Evangelicalism’s Boundaries: Is Open Theism Evangelical?” Published in The Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, June 2002. Introduction I want to begin by expressing my utmost respect for the high value placed on academic fairness and integrity by the editorial board of JETS.…

My Car Crash and the Open View

Last Saturday night Shelley and I were involved in a rather serious four car crash on a local highway. One person was hospitalized, and I’m being treated for neck pain and an on-going dull headache. But thankfully, no one was critically injured. In any event, the crash inspired several folks to e-mail or tweet questions…

The Image of Cross-Like Love: God’s Self-Portrait, Part 6

In the previous blog I argued that God is cross-like love. In this blog I’d like to take this a step further by demonstrating why the cross alone could function as the definitive revelation of God’s true character and by showing how this revelation weaves together everything Jesus was about. If you want to know…
