Anti-American?
Kurt Willems posted a response to the accusation he often gets that he’s anti-American. He also included a video of Greg giving his own response to this question. Take a look!
From Kurt’s blog:
I am not, in any way, anti-American. In fact, I’m not anti-anyone. I believe that the way of Jesus compels us to be “for” everyone. I’m for Iraqis, Egyptians, Canadians (barely
), Mexicans, Peruvians, and every other people group on the planet. I’m also “for” Americans. This doesn’t mean that I’m for the ways in which the church often partners with the sword-bearing government, but I’m “for” the people of this nation. I long, more than anything, that all Americans would redefine their allegiance around the reign of God — the God of enemy love, justice, and salvation. This God, namely Jesus, is my King, President, and Lord.

Nations and Violence

Religion that Blinds Us to God
For a variety of reasons, many Jews at the time of Jesus had come to believe that heaven had been closed since the writing of the last book of the Old Testament. God was distant and no longer active among his people. Their religion focused on holding fast to the law God had given in…

The Deadly Nature of Religious Idolatry
I’m in the process of fleshing out the core convictions of ReKnew as I laid them out in the “ReKnew Manifesto.” Our first core conviction concerns where we are to get our LIFE from, so in my previous post on this topic I addressed “The One True Source.” Before moving on to the second core conviction…
Is America Uniquely “Under God”?
As a rallying slogan for our civil religion, the proclamation that we are “one nation under God” arguably serves a useful social function, for it gives many Americans a sense of shared values and vision. But it is not a slogan kingdom people in America should take too seriously. We must always remember that, while…
